CREATE MOVEMENT IN YOUR WORK by DG Wilson April 2008
Using motion indicators in your work will make the viewer see movement in your subjects. A motion indicator is basically an arrow of either color or light that goes from big to small in the direction that you wish the viewers' eye to travel. We can do this using Focal Points in a work of art. More than one Focal Point in a piece will make the viewer go from the biggest to the smallest, big to small, or from the darkest to lightest. When using lines or shading marks in a piece we control the viewer and what they see, even when...this is commonly known as composition. But by using the composition in a consistant way across or around the art will create a sense of movement or direction. The greater or faster the movement indicators the more speed for the viewer. Try createing different tempos of movement in a single work to create a really interesting effect!
